Edgar joined the Club in 1941 and since then he has been a prominent figure at the Club holding many posts - President 3 times, secretary and various team captains and has served on the committees for much of his time including the Huddersfield Examiner chess column.

He was President in 1955 and 2001 and was secretary briefly for the Club and presented the club with the H.E.Atkins Memorial Trophy. He was secretary for the YCA and NCCU and in 1973 he was President of the BCF.
